AFCON 2019: Ibraheem Jabaar’s Strike Sends Nigeria To World Cup

By Niyi Busari

Golden Eaglets midfielder, Ibraheem Olalekan Jabaar’s 73rd minute eqauliser was all Nigeria needed to secure a point in a 1-1 last group A game against Uganda, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Eaglets dominated the game but lacked the ability to put the ball behind the net. No thanks to Ugandan national U17 goalkeeper, J. Komakech who made nine saves before they came from behind to draw level.

Uganda who were on three points before in two games before their final match against Nigeria needed a win.

First half ended 0-0 which does not portray the true picture of how Eaglets dominated with 78% pass accuracy, 58% possession and 204 passes.

Kawooya’s beautiful 20 yard free kick put Uganda in the driving seat but the jubilation was halted by Ibraheem Jabaar equaliser.

With the draw, Golden Eaglets qualified for the World Cup and the tournament’s semi finals with seven points in three matches, having won their first two games against the host, Tanzania and Angola.
