Athletes To Camp In Europe in May Ahead 2020 Olympics – AFN Acting President

The Acting President of Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Hon. Olamide George has said that all Nigerian athletes that qualify to represent the country at the 2020 Olympics in athletics will camp in an European country for the last preparation ahead of the tournament in Tokyo, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
Olamide who thanked the sports minister for the ‘Adopt an athlete’ initiative which helps some of the athletes get financial support from well meaning Nigerians added that the federation will provide a central camping system in Europe where all athletes will converge for the preparations for the Games.
In his words: “The Sports Minister, Honourable Sunday Dare has made the first important move by getting the funds these athletes require to prepare through his adoption campaign.” Olamide told www.bsnsports.com.ng
He stated further that the federation has concluded plans to arrange camping in an European country three months before the Olympics finals.
“We are also looking to provide a central camping system in Europe by May where our athletes we converge as we must make all necessary preparations to ensure we qualify all the relay teams for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
He also stated that athletes will be in camp in Nigeria before jetting out to Europe for camping.
“Then there is the matter of the local camping here which should begin in May as we want as many athletes to qualify in their respective events and also get a few more that will add great value to the relay teams.
He is confident that with the level of preparations Nigeria will win medals in athletics.
“I am confident we are going to make podium appearances in Tokyo,12 years after we last did in Beijing.
Like I said earlier, our athletes have shown courage in the midst of the administrative confusion at the AFN and we believe if we offer the right technical competence and administrative sagacity,we can conquer the world.
