Ahead of the African Basketball League, Jermaine Lamarr Cole (J.Cole) is in Rwanda and sources say the rappers will be officially unveiled on Thursday for Rwanda Patriot, reports.

J. Cole, an American Rapper is in Rwanda going through quarantine and is ready to be part of the home team in the inaugural basketball tournament.

Cole is one of two import signings by Rwanda’s Patriots B.B.C. team in Basketball Africa League, joining former NC State star Brandon Costner.

He is expected to play three to six games, his first coming up against Nigeria’s sole representative Rivers Hoppers.

The arrival of Cole is perceived by many to be for tourism sake on the part of the Rwandan Government and to promote the maiden edition of the African Basketball League.

Last July, Cole opened up about his basketball aspirations in a feature piece for The Players’ Tribune. Later that month, rumors of Cole pursuing the NBA started to surface when he released a commercial for his first signature basketball shoe, Puma’s RS-Dreamer. The rumors hit a feverpitch in August, when Master P revealed that the Dreamville rapper wanted transition to the NBA, prompting the Detroit Pistons to extend an offer for Cole to come try out for their team.

Rwanda Patriot open their campaign against Nigerian representative Rivers Hoppers on Sunday.
