Breaking: NNL Continues If….

By Niyi Busari

It is no longer news that the Nigeria National League will not restart this weekend as scheduled after their December Yuletide break as the management notified all clubs that the kick off has been shifted indefinitely.

A document from the NNL made available to confirmed our news that the league will not restart this weekend.

Meanwhile, BSN Sports understands that the NNL management and the Club Owners in a meeting today agreed that a selected group of Club Owners are to work with the Nigeria Football Federation to source for sponsors or intervention funds to continue the league.

According to the reliable source, until when both bodies’ synergy is able to get the funds then the league can continue but if not, that means the 2019/20 NNL season will end with the first and second in each group going into the Super 8. Though, there was no agreement of Super 8 among the clubs before the commencement of the 2019/20 season.

However, if they are able to get the funds, then two weeks notice will be given to the clubs to prepare themselves for the restart of the Nigeria second tier league.

When our correspondence spoke the Chief Operating Officer, COO, of the Nigeria National League, Lawrence Katken, said he did not know anything about Club Owners working with the NFF to get intervention funds or sponsors but admitted that the league will not restart this weekend as earlier scheduled. He added that they are working assiduously to make sure that the league continues soon though, he failed to tell Nigerians which date the league will restart.

“Yes, we sent circular to clubs to tell them that the League will not restart as earlier scheduled, this is due to some factors and the management is working to make sure that the league continue soon.

“I can not say when the league will restart but i can tell you that we will start the league soon, it may be tomorrow, next week or next month.
