By Niyi Busari

Confederation of African Football, CAF, will in weeks to come announce the postponement of AFCON 2021 to January 2022, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to RMC SPORT, CAF will have a meeting in the next few weeks to decide another date for the postponed 2021 African Nations Cup earlier slated for July 2021 following outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be played in June and July 2021, but CAF announced on January 15, 2020 that due to unfavourable climatic conditions, the tournament would take place between January 9 and February 6, 2021. There have been debates on whether the tournament should be shifted to June and July, also CAF is urged to consider a 4-year interval for the African most decorated title.

After the postponement of the qualifiers for the next Champions League and Confederation Cup semi-finals, it is now the turn of the finals of the AFCON tournament to be impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
