By Sampson Adedeji
Action continues in the group A of the 2020 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) with Eagles of Mali caging the Burkina Faso, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Host country, Cameroon earlier in the match-day 1, defeated Zimbabwe 1-0 courtesy Banga lone strike in the 72nd minute.
Mali and Burkina Faso started the game on the front foot with end to end action from both teams.
In the last moments of a very balanced first half which saw them have possession but without taking advantage of it, the Eagles thought they had taken the lead on a free kick from Siaka Bagayoko released by Burkinabè goalkeeper Aboubacar Sawadogo on Sadio Kanouté who did enough to stop ball.
In the process, Nouhoum Diané’s men demanded a penalty for an opposing hand in the area, but the referee turned them down.
Bagayoko scored in the 70th minute after an error in the backline of the Burkinababe and they failed to clear their lines.
The win ensured that Mali went joined top with host whom they face on Wednesday while Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe play for survival same day.
