Dalung Charges youths to make use of Tailoring Hub for empowerment

The minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has called on Nigeria youths across the country to make effective use of the provision of utra modern taloring hub to empower themselves for the future, Bestchoicesports can report.

Dalung stated this yesterday in Osun state where the federal government
opened a tailoring hub equipped with industrial and computerized machines, button and weaving machines, stand-by generator at the National Youth Development Centre in Ode-omu, for youth employment and empowerment.

According a press statement signed by the Director of Press, in the ministry, Lere-Adams, it bites that “no fewer than 80 youths drawn across the 36 states and the FCT were trained in tailoring and fashion design. These youths were trained by the Ministry Of Youth and Sports Development under its National Skills Acquisition and Promotion Enterprise. This training was done in collaboration with an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Next 2 None Support Initiative, whose aim is geared towards fighting the ills of the society such as human trafficking, rights abuse and other related youth extremism.”

Speaking at the closing ceremony held on Wednesday, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Olusade Adesola said that the Centre was set-up to assist youths to acquire skills that would ensure job and wealth creation.

The Minister emphasized that the programme and the Tailoring Hub was the first of its kind by the federal government through the ministry and it was designed to assist skilled youths already engaged in tailoring and fashion design to upscale their skills which will enable them to compete in the fashion and design industry both locally and internationally thereby engraving Nigerian image among the comity of nations.

The youths were trained for three weeks on pattern design, sewing of suits, shirts and trouser, office wear, evening wears, window blinds, servicing of industrials machines, financial literacy among others.

With the training given to the youths, the Minister stressed, Nigeria’s apparel export would be enhanced with better finished product that would enable our youths to become employer of labour. Also the financial literacy skills impacted on the youths will enable them managed their finances and transform their tailoring skills into a successful business enterprise. With these number of youths empowered, unemployment in the country will be reduced.

Earlier, the Director of Enterprise Development and Promotions in the Ministry, Mr. Simeon Oduyebo said that the tailoring hub was conceptualized, equipped and implemented by the Ministry to serve as a Training Hub of Excellence for youths across Nigeria to acquire skills that will boost the growth of the textile industry in Nigeria in line with the vision of this Administration.

The participants commended the Federal Government for this very useful and beneficial privilege of this up-scale of the capacity in tailoring and fashion design.

The graduation ceremony was colorful with the chairman of Aiyedade LGA Gbongon, Mr. Adeyeye pledging financial support for the regular usage of the Centre.
