EPL: Ekong In Consideration For Watford Captaincy Role
Following his amazing performance for English Premier League side Watford FC, the club is already considering naming Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong as the team captain, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
The versatile defender joined the Hornets last summer from the Italian Serie A side Udinese and he was one of the top performers as the club secured promotion back to the elite division.
Watford substantive skipper Troy Deeney left the Vicarage road this summer for championship side Birmingham FC.
Head coach of the club Xisco Munoz has listed the Nigeria international among other players for the leadership position.
“I have Ben Foster, we have Tom Cleverley, Ekong, Cathcart,” said the head coach.
“It’s the moment for the new young players to take one step forward. This is the situation. For me, we have a very good group of good players.
“Tom Cleverley always gives positive things, is always is working very hard. Ben Foster, Ekong, Kabasele, I can say names like this.
“But the most important is we have inside of the dressing room good leaders and this is the most important,” he said.
Ekong is expected to in action this weekend when Watford face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league.
