Morocco Set to Use VAR in Botola League Today

By Admin

The North African country’s domination in the CAF Club competition is not by magic but proactive measures taken by the club managements.

The country’s Botola Pro 1 game between FUS Rabat and Ittihad Tanger on Friday, February 14, 2020 is set to become the first ever top division league match in Morocco, in which the Video Assistant Refereeing, VAR, will be used.

Besides the use of VAR in major CAF organized tournaments, it will be the first time VAR will be put to use in a league encounter in the African continent.

According to the Moroccan FA, the VAR will be implemented fully in all stadia across the country, starting from the upcoming round of games in the Botola Pro 1.

The Moroccan Botola Pro 1 is made up of 16 clubs and the season usually runs from August to May, with teams playing 30 matches each, playing each team in the league on a home and away basis, totalling 214 matches in the campaign.
