By Niyi Busari

National Association of Nigerian Professional Fooballers, NANPF has expressed displeasure over the inclusion of the FC Taraba in the 2017/18 Nigerian National League despite the non-payment of the club’s players and officials for more than three years reports.

It would be recalled that FC Taraba are owing their players backlogs of salaries and allowances for the past three years.

As if that was not enough, the players were sacked by the state government without their entitlements despite several assurance and promises to pay the players and officials by the state governor, Mr Darius Ishiaku.

In order to participate in the second tier league this season, the Taraba state government made arrangement for two players from each of twenty-one local governments in the state to prosecute the 2017/18 season.

Taraba government had promised to settle the players and officials of the team since three months salaries was paid after they (players) protested in front of the state house in Taraba last October to demand for their outstanding salaries and allowances.

The Nigeria players Union condemn this callous act in strong terms, therefore, expressed its dismay of FC Taraba registration by the NNL to play in the 2017/18 league season.

Speaking with, the Secretary General of tje Union, Austin Popo said: “We were shocked when we heard that FC Taraba will participate in this season’s NNL, when the league body knows that they are yet to settle the players they used in executing last season’s league.

“This is callous and we condenmed it in totality, the league cannot develop with this attitude towards players.”

“Nigerian Players deserve more than this treatment from the NFF and the leagues body, it is a shame to run the league in this manner.” He continued.

“Going to the Industrial court should be the only option left for the players and officials of the club.” He concluded.
