Niger Tornadoes Defeat 3SC To Emerge 2020/21 NNL Champions

… Bounce Back To NPFL After Two Seasons.

Niger Tornadoes Football Club Of Minna outclassed all opponents that came their way to emerge winners of 2020/2021 Nigeria National League NNL Champions.

The ‘Ikon Allah Boys’ after topping Group A2 Table in the laborious regular football season in the second tier league, capped up the NNL season with a classic display against Oluyole Warriors as Shooting Stars Sports Club are fondly called.

The cathedral, Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium came alive as fans were served just the best football anyone can dream of – Niger Tornadoes got in the score sheet when Shamsudeen Hashim reacted faster to tap in from Debo Fashanu’s fantastic free kick nine minutes into the encounter. After the goal, both teams continued to create chances – Shooting Stars came into the game with a leveler as NNL Top Scorer with 16 goals, Gafar Olafimihan converted from the spot kick after Debo Fashanu’s handball inside the box to proceed for half time break on level term.

On resumption, both teams continued from where they left off with series of incursions into goal areas – Ahmadu Liman stole the show in the fifty eight minute when he fired a long range effort that caught goalkeeper Charles Tambe napping for the second goal and threw the entire stadium into wild jubilation in what can easily be adjudged NNL goal of the season.

From then on, the Ikon Allah Boys were on ascendancy and moments after, they took the game beyond Shooting Stars when Augustine Bafan blast a long range shot off a rebound to put his team in the driving seat.

As the match went on, particularly the last quarter, intensity of the game dropped and could easily be attributed to fatigue as both teams presided over energy sapping 4 matches in nine days as finalists.

Shooting Stars’ Wale Quadry nearly threw the game open with an 87th minute goal to reduce the tally, but the Ikon Allah Boys were able to hold on to their lead for the nervy remaining part of the game, as center referee, Ahmed Rabiu sound his whistle to signal the end of the game.

Answering question from journalist shortly after the match, Niger Tornadoes forward Oche Josiah attributed the victory to proper planning, commitment and hard work from the Management, Coaches and Players and dedicated the victory to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello for his support to the team and entire Nigerlites for their prayers.
