Following the poll conducted on Sunday evening among the clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League to end the 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League, BSN Sports can reveal that the 2019/20 Nigeria National League (NNL), Nationwide League One (NLO) and the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season has come to an end.

Seventeen chairmen of the clubs voted that the season should come to an end with the top three clubs representing Nigeria at the CAF inter-clubs competition in the next season.

That way, there would neither be promotion from the lower cadre nor relegation of any of the NPFL clubs. The clubs chieftains were asked to vote on options to end the season owing to the Covid-19 situation.

NNL, in December 2019 went on break after three matches but did not return from the Christmas break due to paucity of funds which prematurely discontinued the league before Coronavirus halted all sporting activities in the world. The Nationwide League and the Nigeria Women Professional League have not commenced before Nigeria Government announced suspension of all sporting activities in March 2020 due to Covid 19.

Recall that www.bsnsports.com.ng had reported that the 2019/20 season of the NNL, NLO and the Women League will be canceled. This follows a statement made by the Chairman, League Management Company, Shehu Dikko that the lower leagues may not hold due to lack of funds to be spent in holding all the lower league matches.

Few weeks later, Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick was quoted to have said that the Nigerian Leagues may still hold depending on Federal Government, CAF and FIFA instructions.
