NPFL: Attempted Attack On Match Officials By Wikki Tourists’ Chairman Uncovered
Following Wikki Tourists’ 5-1 loss to Katsina United in a Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL matchday 20 encounter, an assault on the match officials has been revealed.
The assault came at full time when Wikki Tourists club chairman, Balarabe Yusuf Douglas was noticed running towards the asssitant referee to harm him and with centre referee of the match, Aniete Ferdinand Udoh noticing, he had to keep the safety of his fellow official.
It took the help of the security men to calm the situation only for Ferdinand to later notice that he was the one the club chairman wanted to attack when he was back in the dressing room.
When quizzed, the chairman said the assistant referee was raising the flag way too much against his team.
In a game where the home side proved to be the better side, Nazifi Yahya was sent off for abusing referee Ferdinand, after he dived for a penalty with scoreline at 5-1.
He was brandished a yellow card and he resulted to abusing the ref. Thus, a red card was shown.
