Last season’s goal king, Paul Onuachu failed to score as champions Club Brugge beat cup winners Genk 3-2 to win the Belgium Super Cup.

Onuachu, who is expected to soon make a transfer to a major league after his goals last season, started the game, but was replaced by fellow Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers after 46 minutes.

Theo Bongonda opened the scoring for Genk in the 44th minute before Matej Mitrovic leveller three minutes later to end the first half at 1-1.

NOA Lang scored Brugge’s second goal from the penalty spot as Clinton Mata increased the tally to three before Jere Uronen reduced the two goal deficit to one and end the game 3-2

David Okereke, whose future at Club Brugge is unclear, was an unused substitute.

The new season in Belgium will kick off on Friday.
