Transfer Update: German Bundesliga Club Captures Nigerian Forward
Sampson Adedeji
Bundesliga 2 side SC Paderborn have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Kennedy Okpala from German third-division club Waldhof Mannheim, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The deal, which will see Okpala move to Paderborn in January, was confirmed by transfer expert Florian Plettenberg.
According to reports, Paderborn activated the striker’s €550,000 release clause to secure his services.
“Kennedy #Okpala to SC Paderborn – DONE DEAL,” Plettenberg wrote on his X handle.
“He will join Paderborn in January, as per @SkySport_Ben. The 20-year-old striker from Waldhof Mannheim signed with Paderborn on Tuesday.”
Okpala has been in impressive form this season, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in 17 league appearances for Waldhof Mannheim.
His performances attracted interest from higher-division clubs, prompting Paderborn to move swiftly to finalize the transfer.
The Nigerian forward’s contract with Waldhof Mannheim was due to run until the summer of 2026, but Paderborn’s decision to trigger the release clause paved the way for his move.
Okpala is expected to add depth and attacking quality to SC Paderborn as they push for their objectives in the second half of the season.
