Injured Super Eagles defender Felix Agu is set to return to competitive action for Werder Bremen when they take on Bayer Leverkusen this weekend, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Agu has been sidelined for the past two months after sustaining an injury, which also ruled him out of Nigeria’s campaign at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Werder Bremen sporting director Clemens Fritz confirmed on Friday that the versatile defender is close to full fitness and could be involved in the weekend’s Bundesliga fixture. Speaking on the situation, Fritz explained that Agu’s return provides additional options for the team, although final decisions will be made after assessing his readiness. “There’s nothing concrete regarding Olivier. His situation is similar to Julian’s,” Fritz said. “Isaac Schmidt is currently playing on the left and Felix Agu is also returning, but we have to wait and see how long he needs. Therefore, we’re waiting to see if and how we will act.” Agu’s return will be a welcome boost for Werder Bremen as they continue their league campaign, while the Super Eagles defender will be eager to regain match fitness and consistency ahead of future international assignments.
