“A Huge Burden”: Buruk Reveals Financial Strain of Osimhen’s Mega Deal On Galatasaray

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has acknowledged that the club’s blockbuster acquisition of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has placed significant financial pressure on the Turkish champions. 

Buruk’s comments, reported by Soccernet, underscore the challenges the club faces in managing both sporting expectations and regulatory budget constraints.

Osimhen joined Galatasaray from Napoli during the 2025 summer transfer window in a deal that marked the most expensive signing in Turkish football history. The transfer fee alone amounted to €75 million, while the striker’s salary package is expected to push the total investment to around €150 million.

Speaking on the impact of the move, Buruk admitted the financial burden has complicated squad management amid the club’s recent struggles.

“We are going through a difficult period, and we have not been able to get the desired results from some players,” he said. “There are salary budget restrictions from both the TFF and UEFA for transfers. We bought Osimhen for €75 million, and his salary is also a huge burden.”

Galatasaray’s form has dipped in recent weeks, with the team losing three of their last six matches across all competitions, including a Champions League defeat to AS Monaco. The club has also been hit by injuries to key players such as Wilfried Singo, Mario Lemina and Kaan Ayhan, forcing Buruk to turn to youth players to fill crucial roles.

Despite the financial weight of the deal and the team’s inconsistent performances, Osimhen has shown flashes of the quality that made him one of Europe’s most coveted forwards. While injuries have affected his rhythm, the club remains confident that he will become a decisive force as the season progresses.
