AFCON 2025: CAF Descends Heavily On FECAFOOT President Eto’o

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed down stiff sanctions to the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, following his conduct during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash between Morocco and Cameroon, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement released by CAF, Eto’o was suspended for four matches and fined the sum of $20,000 after being found guilty of misconduct related to the encounter played in Rabat.

CAF disclosed that the former African Footballer of the Year displayed unsporting behaviour after the match, having openly expressed his displeasure with the officiating decisions.

Reports indicate that Eto’o confronted officials angrily in the presence of CAF President Patrice Motsepe and several FIFA dignitaries, an action deemed inappropriate and contrary to the principles of sportsmanship.

Following a review by the CAF Disciplinary Board, the governing body concluded that Eto’o’s actions violated its statutes and disciplinary code, prompting the imposition of both a suspension and a financial penalty.

Morocco had eliminated Cameroon from the tournament with a 2-0 victory in the quarterfinal, a result that sparked strong reactions from the Cameroonian camp.

The sanction means Eto’o will be barred from attending the next four official CAF matches involving Cameroon or played under CAF’s authority.
