"Appointment of Coaches, NFF Affairs" - Sports Minister Denies Traveling To UK For Eagles Coach
By Niyi Busari
Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has denied his involvement in getting the new Super Eagles Coach, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The former coach, Finidi George, resigned from the position after leading Super Eagles in just two World Cup qualifying games, making the federation to run against time in getting a new manager for the three times African champions.
It was reported that the Minister and the President, Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau were in England to search for new coach for the senior national team.
During the Minister's nteractive session with Sports Writers in Abuja on Thursday, Senator John Enoh denied the report, though, admitting traveling to England but according to him, he went seeking for sponsors for Nigeria sports as against the report of him searching for Super Eagles next coach.
"Getting coaches for national teams is totally NFF affairs, the soft spoken Minister told BSN Sports.
"I was in England to seek for sponsors to develop Nigeria sports and not to get a coach for Super Eagles. What I know is that I urged the NFF to get Super Eagles a good, capable coach who will against all odds get the country the tickets to the 2026 World Cup as well as the next African Nations Cup. It's important to note that, at this time, Nigeria sports needs financial supports for us to place sports where it ought to be."
