'Boot Cleaner' Jubilation: Nigerian Defender Steals Show With Hilarious Salah Moment

Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu was at the centre of a light-hearted moment with Mohamed Salah following Trabzonspor’s 2-1 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

Salah was the star of the evening, scoring twice at Papara Park to give Trabzonspor their first league victory of the new season.

The Egyptian forward opened the scoring in the eighth minute before doubling the advantage four minutes into the second half. Eldor Shomurodov pulled one back from the penalty spot, but Trabzonspor held on for all three points.

After one of Salah’s goals, television cameras captured a playful exchange between the Egyptian superstar and Nwaiwu, with the Nigerian defender appearing to jokingly “clean” Salah’s boots.

The amusing gesture quickly attracted attention from football fans, who enjoyed the unusual interaction between two Trabzonspor players.

Beyond the lighter moment, Nwaiwu also made an important contribution on the pitch. The 23-year-old defender produced a crucial intervention early in the match to prevent Başakşehir forward Shomurodov from getting a clear sight of goal.

Nwaiwu, who is listed in Trabzonspor’s UEFA Europa League squad, has become part of a high-profile defensive unit that now includes the likes of Stefan Savić and former Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana.

The victory also provided Salah with his first goals for Trabzonspor since joining the Turkish club on a two-year contract earlier this month. The former Liverpool star made the move after leaving Anfield following a trophy-laden nine-year spell.

With Salah already making an immediate impact and Nwaiwu establishing himself in the defence, Trabzonspor will hope the Nigerian-Egyptian combination can contribute to a successful campaign domestically and in Europe.
