CAF Champions League: CAF Slams Heavy Sanctions On Moroccan Giants AS FAR

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has come down hard on Moroccan giants AS FAR following crowd-related misconduct during their CAF Champions League clash against Egypt’s Al Ahly, BSNSports.com.ng reports

In a statement released by CAF, the continental body confirmed that AS FAR will play their next two CAF Champions League home matches behind closed doors, denying the club the support of their fans as punishment for multiple stadium incidents.

CAF also imposed a cumulative fine of $100,000 on the Rabat-based club, with a detailed breakdown of the sanctions highlighting a series of serious infractions. 

The fines include $20,000 for the use of laser pointers, $15,000 for the throwing of water bottles, $15,000 for deliberate actions by ball boys who hid match balls, and a hefty $50,000 for a sharp object thrown onto the pitch.

AS FAR have been given 60 days to settle the fines in full.

As part of the disciplinary measures, AS FAR’s upcoming home fixtures against JS Kabylie and Young Africans will be played behind closed doors, a move expected to significantly impact the club’s Champions League campaign.

CAF reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on stadium misconduct, emphasizing that the sanctions are intended to deter future incidents and ensure safety, fairness, and professionalism across its competitions.
