'He Opened The Door To So Many Portuguese,' Emotional Peseiro Speaks Of Jose Mourinho

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has only good words for his compatriot Jose Mourinho claiming the Portuguese has “enthusiasm and motivation over the years", BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Peseiro ones worked as an assistant to the former Real Madrid coach and it is believed that the Nigeria Football Federation under Amaju Pinnick hired Peseiro, based on recommendation from fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho.

“I’ve worked with him and we are good friends. He has proven to have enthusiasm and motivations over the years.” said the Super Eagles coach to Tuttoweb.

“He opened the door for many Portuguese coaches, proving that we have a strong school. We all have to thank him.

At first, he won without money at Porto, then he became a fighter. He has created something everywhere he’s gone, bringing enthusiasm, attention, and results.” Peseiro concluded.

Peseiro will now have to focus on his new Nigerian job after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar under the caretaker coach Austin Euguevon. 

He also needs to improve his numbers, since his appointment in May, the Portuguese have taken charge of just six matches with 2 wins, 1 draw, 3 defeats on his report sheet.

Peseiro’s two victories came in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone (2-1) and Sao Tome and Principe (10-0).

He has lost to Mexico (2-1), Ecuador (1-0) and Algeria (2-1).
