By Gbenga Gboyega
Katsina United suffered their first loss in the promotional playoffs at the hands of Abuja-based EFCC FC, in a dramatic affair at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Head coach of Kastina - Usman Abdallah in a post-game reaction highlighted what went wrong for his side in favor of their opponents - EFCC FC.
"I think the EFCC boys played very well, and that's football. They came out to play, fought hard on the pitch, and scored beautiful goals, so kudos to them.
"I like the team spirit of our opponents as well. And for my team, we tried to come back in the second half, but it was hard luck that we lost eventually," he said.
Kastina started their series on a winning note following a 2-1 win over DMD FC, but EFCC FC who also lost their opening game to Kano Pillars, bounced back to clinch all maximum points, with major thanks to Utum Godswill, EFCC FC's goalkeeper and captain who saved a penalty on the stroke of half-time to keep the game at bay.
Abdallah believes it is only a setback his team can recover from, as subsequent game pose better chance to recharge for more positive results.
"Fortunately, I believe it's not over yet. And I think the challenge to my boys is that results are not laid out for you, they are fought for.
"The EFCC came out to fight for the results and they were blessed with two goals. It's football, it requires courage, hard work and create chances to get the goals.
"I will go back to my boys and reshuffle the team, then charge the boys for the next game, because it is not over yet," he concluded.
Abdulkarim Ammar gifted EFCC FC the lead in the first half, as Yahaya Ibrahim doubled the lead before halftime to stun Kastina.
Although, Victor Mbaoma tried to pull one back for Kastina United in the second 45 to score his 3rd goal of the tournament, Kastina United's penalty loss came to hunt them at the very end, as the game ended 2 goals to one in favor of EFCC FC.
