"I Cant Say Whether The Elections Will Hold In September Or Not" - NFF General Secretary

The General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Sanusi Mohammed has said that he is not in position to determine whether or not the federation elections will hold in September, BSNSports.com.ng can report.


The current board of the NFF tenure expires in September and their suppose to be elections to usher in new board. The Federation President, Amaju Pinnick had on several forum declared that he will not contest for the Third Term having won elections in 2014 and 2018 to become the first person holding the office in two terms.


However, the NFF had stated that the Elective Congress to usher in the new board would not be held because of the Bayelsa State Federal High Court exparte order stopping the federation from holding Congress since December 2021

The order had since last Friday being temporarily suspended to clear road for the elections.


In an exclusive interview with the General Secretary of NFF, Sanusi Mohammed, he said there are processes that will determine whether the elections will hold or not.

BSN Sports: With the ex-parte order stopping the federation from holding Congress temporarily suspended, what next regarding the September NFF elections?

General Secretary (GS): "You know that this issue came up last week and we will resume on Monday once we get the legal documents and send to legal department and advise us accordingly which go to the Board through the President (of the NFF).


BSN Sports: Which means the September elections will be held all things being equal.


GS: "No, I cant say anything on that but I can only tell you the procudures once we get the necessary documents. I will write and tell the board of NFF that we have gotten the documents vacating the court order.


BSN Sports: Apart from the ex-parte order stopping the federation from holding Congress, is there any other hindrance affecting the NFF from holding the Congress?


GS: "I would not tell because my own is to present everything to the board. It is the board that will decide and not me. So, I am not in any position to say anything on that, the congress detemines what next.


BSN Sports: In the event that elections is not held in September, what do you think according to statute will happen?


GS: "Well, what i will tell you is that in FIFA, there must be no vacuum. So, if the election is not holding in September FIFA will look at reasons why the elections can not take place and then pass judgement.


The General Secretary however denied that the federation elections was held under one month in 2014.


GS: "In 2014, already there was arrangement on ground only that there was problem and they kept on postponing. So, it was not held under one month."

The Federal Government of Nigeria through Ministry of Sports last weekend sent a letter to the President of the NFF to make sure that the election is held as scheduled and also amend the statute to accomodate more stakeholders.
