"I Have Not Spoken With Tosin Adarabioyo" - Eguavoen Says

Interim Super Eagles Coach, Austin Eguavoen has cleared the air on the rumours that Tosin Adarabioyo is listed in the squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier games against Libya.

Despite circulating reports, Eguavoen clarified that he has not had any direct conversations with the 27-year-old. “I didn’t speak with Tosin, but he’s a good player,” Eguavoen stated in an interview with Premium Times.

He added that Adarabioyo is one of the players under consideration, stating, “Every Nigerian playing worldwide has the right to play for Nigeria, including Tosin.”

Adarabioyo, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, remains eligible to represent either England or Nigeria.

However, after being overlooked by England for the 2024 European Championship, it is rumored that he may shift his allegiance to Nigeria.

While Eguavoen confirmed that Adarabioyo is being observed, it appears unlikely that he will feature in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming AFCON doubleheader against Libya.

Instead, Eguavoen is expected to rely on the defensive trio of William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, and Calvin Bassey, who performed well in recent matches, including a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a goalless draw with Rwanda.

“Same approach, the players were willing to do it (then) and they still want to do it, and it’s completely up to them. We can only advise them,” Eguavoen said, stating his intention to maintain consistency in his defensive lineup.

Currently, the Super Eagles lead Group D with four points from two games, and back-to-back wins against Libya next month could secure their qualification for AFCON 2024.
