By Precious Oham

Nigerian midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has expressed happiness following Super Eagles' qualification to the Round of 16 at the ongoing AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ndidi, who missed out of the tournament due to injury decried his inability to represent his country at the AFCON adding that the team's plan is to get to the final.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of Monday night’s game against Ipswich, Ndidi said: "It was really bad for me not to be there but I’m so happy for the team because even from last year, this is what we have been planning to go for the AFCON. Just try as much as possible to get to the final. We planned to win games which gets you to the next stage."

Nigeria defeated Guinea-Bissau 1-0 to seal a spot in the Round of 16 with seven points in Group A.

The Nigerian midfielder had initially expected to be out until April, but may return as soon as early February, despite undergoing surgery at the start of the new year.

However, after a quick recovery from surgery, he’s optimistic about returning to action at the beginning of next month.

"The injury’s alright, I’m getting there. It’s two weeks post surgery. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, I’ll be back." Asked if that was a couple of weeks until he was training or playing, he added: "A couple of weeks to play."
