"Increase The Number of Your Congress Members" - Minister Orders NFF

By Niyi Busari

The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh has ordered the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to increase the number of its Congress members, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Before NFF Elective Congress in 2010, the Congress was made up of over 100 members but has been reduced to 46 members.

Five statutory bodies make up the NFF – the Players union, Coaches union, the Referees, the Clubs and the State FAs.

Surprisingly, out of 46 votes, only State FA has 37 while other four bodies shared the remaining nine votes.

Arising from the meeting with NFF on Thursday, Sports Minister, John Enoh urged the federation to further expand the number of its Congress members to allow other stakeholders participate in the development of the sport.

"Furthermore, the meeting delved into other more substantive matters said to be holding down our football development, including the expansion of the present membership of the NFF Congress, so as to make for more inclusive and greater representation." The press statement from the Ministry of Sports reads in part.
