Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey has described his match-winning goal for Fulham FC as a proud moment in his career, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Bassey was the hero on Saturday, scoring the decisive goal in Fulham's 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.
"The boys give me a bit of stick sometimes! But today I proved them wrong. I was able to get there, and for me, it’s a proud moment—my first goal this season," Bassey said, speaking to the club’s official website.
"But for the team, I think we deserved it. We created a lot of chances, and I think we deserved the win. You could see we tried to control the game."
The Nigerian international also highlighted the team's defensive strategy against Forest's counter-attacking threat.
"We knew they’re very dangerous on the counter, so defence was very important for us, making sure we didn’t open ourselves up. We tried to stay narrow, but for their goal, we weren’t narrow enough. Chris Wood, who’s been on fire, managed to slot it home.
"After that, we made sure to have each other’s backs, cover for one another, control the ball, and take better care of possession. As you could see, we created so many chances and, on another day, could have had more than two."
The win lifted Fulham to eighth place in the Premier League, just five points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
