"Kan U Believe It?" - Nigerian Legend Reflects On His Illustrious Career

Former Nigerian International and legend, Nwankwo Kanu reflected on the journey of his football career, while announcing an ongoing partnership with a Sports platform on social media bsnsports.com.ng reports.

Kanu, 46 years old, born in Owerri, and is 1.97 metres tall, enjoyed an illustrious journey from home soil with Heartland FC back in 1992, through the Netherlands with Ajax and England with Arsenal, up to his retirement with Portsmouth in UK's League One in 2012.

His two decades of football saw successes both domestically, internationally, on the continent, and at club level, boasting of five national league titles across two teams (Ajax & Arsenal), a Champions League with Ajax, and three FA Cup titles with Arsenal.

Kanu was also instrumental with the Super Eagles both individually and collectively, bagging the best player in Africa twice (1996 & 1999), after winning the U-17 World Cup with the Golden Eaglets in 1993, and becoming an Olympic Gold medalist in 1996.

The twitter post by Kanu depicted his journey through five teams across three counties, and four leagues - Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie, Internazionale in the Italian Série A, Arsenal in the English Premier League, alongside West Brom and Portsmouth in the League One.

The post on his official twitter handle read:

Speaking of memories, Nigerians will remember the 1996 Olympic game against Brazil in Atlanta, where Kanu scored the equalising goal to make the scoreline 3-3, he proceeded to celebrate in dancing form after running in a comical manner.

The goal came off a long throw by Austin Okocha into the 18-yard box, met by Wilson Oruma who directed the ball to the path of Kanu, who in turn raised the ball with his right foot and finished with the same beyond the gloves of Brazil's Dida.

Kanu also went on to score Nigeria's fourth and winning goal of the game to ensure the Dream Team's progress to the final.

Kanu has scored other memorable goals especially for club, citing a special for Arsenal against Spurs in 1999, after receiving a Patrick Vieira free kick, then lobbing the ball over Tottenham's Young with a fine touch, before slotting home from close range. Kan U believe it?
