"Kelechi Nwakali Still Under Contract but Not in My Plans" - Barnsley Boss

Barnsley manager Conor Hourihane has clarified the situation surrounding Nigeria international Kelechi Nwakali, confirming the midfielder remains contracted to the club until June 30, 2027, but free to leave before the close of the current transfer window, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking to BBC Radio, Hourihane dismissed rumours suggesting that Nwakali had been dismissed by the club.

“Fired? Not heard anything about that,” the Barnsley boss stated when asked about the speculation.

However, he admitted that the former Arsenal midfielder is not in his plans for the season after being dropped from recent matchday squads. Nwakali was reportedly sidelined after returning late from holiday, a decision that has cast doubts over his immediate future with the League One side.

The Super Eagles star now faces an uncertain spell at Oakwell, with Barnsley open to offers as the transfer window draws to a close.
