‘No Pressure’ — Nnadozie Confident as Super Falcons Target 11th African Title

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness to defend their continental crown at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), insisting the team feels no added pressure despite their dominant pedigree.

The Nigeria women's national football team, widely known as the Super Falcons, claimed a record-extending 10th title at the previous edition of the biennial tournament held in Morocco.

‘No Pressure at All’

Speaking to the team’s media, Nnadozie dismissed suggestions that Nigeria’s status as reigning champions places them under strain to further extend their dominance on the continent.

“We are not under any pressure at all. We’ve worked so hard over the years to be where we are today,” the Brighton goalkeeper said.

“There are so many teams working hard to be in this position, and respect to all of them. But there’s no pressure.”

Nigeria remain the most successful nation in the history of the competition and will once again enter the tournament as one of the favourites.

Group C Challenge

Drawn in Group C, the Super Falcons will face Malawi, Zambia and Egypt in the group stage of the 2026 finals.

Under head coach Justine Madugu, Nigeria will open their campaign against tournament debutants Malawi on Wednesday, 18 March.

Hosts Morocco will stage the tournament from 17 March to 3 April.

Beyond continental glory, the stakes are high: the four semi-finalists will secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With experience, pedigree and a squad blending youth and leadership, Nigeria will be aiming to reaffirm their supremacy in African women’s football — pressure or not.
