The captain of the Sky Blue Stars in the Nigeria Premier League - Nduka Junior Harrison, has claimed that Remo Stars are champions in their own rights, as the team prepares to face Ghana Premier League champions - Medeama SC, BSNsports.com.ng reports.
The 21-year-old spoke to the club's media in anticipation of the forthcoming CAF Champions League season while highlighting the team's objective when they face Ghana's reigning champions.
"We’ve learnt from our last early exit on the continent. We know they’re champions in Ghana but we are also champions in our own right. We will definitely play our best football over two legs," Nduka said in a tweet posted by the club.
The Ikenne-based club will be going away from home to face Medeama in the first leg at the TNA Stadium in Ghana, before welcoming the Ghanaians to the Remo Stars Stadium for the return leg slated for the 25th of August.
Nduka, who was appointed vice-captain of the club behind captain Saheed Lasisia ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, started representing the Sky Blue Stars at U-17 level, before captaining the team for the first time that season, on the 25th of November, 2019 while scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win against Lamray United F.C.
Remo Stars came second at the end of the regular 2023 abridged NPFL season in Group A with 33 points from 18 games, before also settling for second place at the Naija Super Six Championship playoffs with 9 points from 5 games.
