Mozambique captain Dominguez has stated that the Black Mambas are fully aware of the challenge posed by Nigeria ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 clash, but insists his team is not intimidated, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Mozambique will face the Super Eagles on Monday in Fez, with a place in the quarterfinals at stake.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Dominguez acknowledged Nigeria’s quality and physical strength, while stressing that his side remains confident and determined to compete.

“The Nigerian team is very powerful, but we will not be intimidated by that,” he said.

“We want to go there and compete because football is 90 minutes and anything can happen.”

The Mozambique skipper also reflected on his team’s journey to the knockout stage, describing their qualification as a major achievement, but one that has only strengthened their ambition.

“We know the challenges we are going to face. We know we have managed to reach another stage and we are still celebrating our qualification,” Dominguez added.

“However, we understand the importance of this game and the kind of match it is.

"That gives us more strength because we continue to dream, knowing that this is a season of breakthrough for us.”

Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, head into the tie as favourites, but Mozambique will be hoping to spring a surprise as they chase a historic quarterfinal berth.
