"We Need Enyimba Back On The Continent" - Fans Cry Out

By Gbenga Gboyega

Fans of Enyimba FC of Aba have expressed their feelings about the continental status of their favorite club, by wishing they return to participating and dominating CAF Competitions sooner rather than later.

The People's Elephant had a date with Plateau United in the Federation Cup on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin, in a feisty clash that was settled on penalties. But before the game, had published their squad list featuring the Starting XI and reserves.

Fans took to their keypads to react to the post with some complimenting the "intimidating squad", others wishing them the best, and another with the request for Champions League participation.

@SpiceSimeone on twitter: Replying to @EnyimbaFC - "This squad is intimidating. We need Enyimba back on the continent to compete with the best."

@NwobodoOkwy on twitter: Replying to @EnyimbaFC - "All the best ♥"

Enyimba have four CAF titles in their cabinet, as consecutive CAF Champions League, and CAF Super Cup winners between 2003 and 2005. But that has jolly well fizzled out with the team not moving past the first round since 2011 - the last time they reached the semifinals.

Only one game is left in the 2023 Abridged NPFL season before the Super Six playoff, with Enyimba sitting second behind Bendel Insurance, and ahead of Remo Stars in Group A.

Qualification is all but the first step enroute to CAF next season, if they don't lose away to Sunshine Stars on the final day, while Akwa United just three points behind in fourth position, capitalise, when visiting Gombe in theirs.

Second step would be to finish among the top three teams in the Super Six playoff, with the top two featuring in the Champions League, while the third stars in the Confederation Cup.

Third step could be the charm, win the Federation Cup, and secure the second ticket to the Confederation Cup, alongside the third best Super Six team.

Any of these three steps, could probably or possibly bring @SpiceSimeone's wishes on twitter to pass, and see the People's Elephant back on continental ways.
