Rivers United played their first of three games to go before MatchDay 18 in the current NPFL season, against 9th-placed Wikki Tourists in Bauchi, as Stanley Eguma rued the mistakes made by his team, and projects a better performance in subsequent games, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

The Pride of Rivers returned to the domestic league after exiting the continent at the hands of Young Africans in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals, to face their outstanding games, one of which was against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.

Head coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, bemoaned the draw which was not the desired result while highlighting possible reasons for the outcome.

"We had a lot of scoring chances which we missed. They got a penalty as well and missed, but I think it was a good game, and a balanced game technically.

"We suffered a little bit of fatigue, and that affected our game today."

Eguma also stated that the team was the victim of costly mistakes made during the game, plus reiterated the absence of key players that could have turned the tie around.

"We take every game as they come, we plan for every game. Today we planned to win here, but we got a draw.

"We will go back home and correct our mistake, and intensify our preparations for the next game, and I think we will come out better in the next game.

"We tried to get the three points, but I won't say unfortunately, but we dint get the desired result, and it's okay.

"You can see we played with almost our second team here, as most of our key players that played in the past are not here, due to injury and fatigue, so we had to rest them."

Rivers have two home games to go against Sunshine Stars, and Doma United, before facing Enugu Rangers on the final day (May 21st), in a bid to assure their Super 6 qualification, and possibly retain the NPFL title.
