"Why I Accept D'Tigers Job" - Fizdale

Newly appointed D’Tigers head coach David Fizdale has explained why he accepted the role of leading Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team despite receiving several other offers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigeria Basketball Federation recently confirmed the appointment of the former NBA head coach as the new handler of the national team ahead of the third window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Angola.

Speaking on his decision to take the job, Fizdale disclosed that former D’Tigers coach Mike Brown played a key role in convincing him to accept the position.

“I’m super excited. I have coach Mike Brown to thank, who coached the team before during the year they beat the United States in the qualifiers and played in Japan,” Fizdale said.

“Brown brought it up to me and after some good talks and going back and forth, we agreed that I was going to try to take the team to qualify,” he added.

Fizdale is expected to lead D’Tigers into the next phase of the 2027 World Cup qualifying campaign as Nigeria targets a return to the global basketball showpiece.
