The President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has explained why he decided to remain in office beyond an initial single-term plan, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Motsepe, who succeeded Ahmad Ahmad as CAF President, disclosed that his decision was driven by the need to ensure continuity and stability within African football’s governing body.

The South African football administrator stated that although his original intention was to serve only one term, he reconsidered in order to consolidate the progress made during his tenure.

“I was originally supposed to serve only one term as CAF President, but I must ensure that those who succeed me continue to build on the legacy we have created,” Motsepe said.

Since assuming office, Motsepe has overseen a series of reforms aimed at improving governance, financial transparency, and competitiveness across African football.

His administration has also focused on strengthening CAF competitions and fostering better relationships with global football stakeholders.

His decision to extend his stay is seen by many observers as a move to solidify ongoing projects and lay a sustainable foundation for future leadership within CAF.
