"Home-based Players Are Good Enough To Play For Super Eagles" - Popoola
By Sampson Adedeji
The assistant coach of the Nigeria National League side Shooting Stars, Yinka Popoola has stated that if level playing ground is allowed, many home based players are good enough to dorn the national team jersey of Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The debate of the home based players playing for Nigeria's Super Eagles has been in the public domain for sometimes recently with ex palyers, administrators, coaches and stakeholders discussing the issues at length.
Popoola said most of the foreign based like Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo etc once played in the league.
"The problem with our football is the reason we are talking as if it's not possible for home based to play for Super Eagles.
Any Nigeria players, no matter where you are playing inasmuch you are playing professional football you are good enough to play for Super Eagles.
How can we be playing professional football in Nigeria and say no home based players can play for the Super Eagles.
We have a lots of talented players even majority of these present Super Eagles started from the local league, Ahmed Musa was the highest scorer in some years back but because he was given a chance that is the reason we are talking about him today, Odion Ighalo also started in Nigeria league.
If given enough encouragement i believed the home based players can easily play in the Super Eagles if given equal opportunity," he stated.
