"I Prefer Winning AFCON Title To Highest Goal Scorer Award - Osimhen

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has said that winning the African Nations Cup title with Nigeria is more important than him winning the highest goal scorer award in the competition, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The French Ligue 1, Lille striker revealed this in an interview session on Instagram on Sunday.

The 21-year old striker who has his AFCON debut with Nigeria last year at the 2019 African Nations Cup in Egypt, however, stated that as a striker he is looking forward to winning the individual award some day but winning it can not be compared to winning AFCON title for Nigeria.

In his word, "I prefer winning the African Nations Cup title to winning the Highest Goal Scorer Award. The title to me, is more important because that comes as a result of collective efforts of the team and tells the quality of the team. Also, winning the title rates the team as the best in the continent.". Osimhen said on the Instagram session monitored by BSN Sports.

In March 2019, Osimhen was released from the Super Eagles squad to represent the Nigerian U23 side as they were two goals down against their Libyan opponent.

He scored three goals in the return match against Libya in Asaba, Nigeria.
Osimhen was listed in coach Gernot Rohr's 25-man provisional list for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt and was further listed in the final list for the tournament which marked his first experience.

In the match for third place, he replaced the injured Odion Ighalo at half-time in the team's 1–0 victory over Tunisia . He played a total of 45 mins at the tournament

On 14 August 2019, the coach of the Nigerian National Team, Gernot Rohr, invited Osimhen for a friendly against Ukraine , that was played on 10 September 2019 in Dnipro Arena, Ukraine which ended in a 2–2 draw. He was also included in the Super Eagles team to face Brazil in a friendly match in Singapore on 13 October 2019.
