"NFF Crisis Would Have Ended If My Recommendation To FG Was Implemented" - Dalung
By Niyi Busari
The immediate past minister of youth and sports development, Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung has said that the crisis rocking Nigeria football would have ended if federal government had implemented the recommendation he submitted which proffered solutions to the crisis, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Dalung stated that the Elders Committee he constituted to proffer solution to the crisis affecting Nigeria football traced it back to when former Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Galadima was unlawfully removed from office and FIFA statute was smuggled and imposed on Nigeria without following due process. The symptom of the crisis, according to the Committee is the crisis Nigeria football is faced with.
The elder committee therefore recommemded that Nigeria should exit itself from all international competitions for two year. The two years, according to them, will be used to rebuild all the football structures from the scratch and that the national teams will be better for it.
Speaking exclusively to www.bsnsports.com.ng in Abuja, Dalung said:
"This crisis of NFF would have been solved when i set up the Elders Committee under Late Col Aminu Mumuni, the elders x-rayed the problems of football and traced it back to when Ibrahim Galadima was unlawfully removed from office and FIFA statute was smuggled and imposed on Nigeria without following due process."
"They (Elders Committee) said today we are dealing with symptoms of that particular crisis and recommended that the only way for Nigeria is to excuse itself from international competitions and put its house in order. I sent this documentation to government but it was rejected." The former minister added.
"Some people in the state house said, how will i send such a letter? But i tried to explain this thing to them but they could not understand." He concluded.
Nigeria football faced major setback in 2019 as all national teams have failed in one competition or the other.
The Super Falcons failed to clinch the 2020 Olympic ticket after Cote d'Ivoire halted them from progressing to the next round of the qualification.
The Super Eagles though topping their group in the 2021 African Nations Cup qualifiers but ended the 2019 African Cup of Nations as 3rd best team in Africa.
The Golden Eaglets crashed out of the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in the second round losing 1-3 to Netherlands. The Golden Eaglets have won the championship five times before the 2019 edition.
The Flying Eagles struggled to the second round in Poland but also exited the tournament in the Round of 16.
Nigeria also failed to qualify for WAFU Football Championship as well as Championship of African Nations (CHAN) finals.
