"We Need To Rewrite What Has Happened To Nigeria Basketball In The Last Four Years" - Players Representative By Niyi Busari Newly elected Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Players Representative, Stanley Gumut, has said that he's unhappy with what happened to basketball in the last four years. Stanley Gumut defeated Yakubu Usman 25-12 in the Players Representative election held at the Indoor Sports Hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja. Stanley expressed dissatisfaction saying that the inability of the federation to organize the Premier League in the last four years affected the domestic players from developing and forced many to early retirement. "I am not happy with what has happened in the last four years in the Nigeria basketball league . I can tell you, if you see my stomach, it is a little bigger than what it is used to be, not because I can't play anymore but because I am not fit. I have not played in the league in the last four years. Many players have been forced to early retirement." He described the victory as a win for the players. "I did not win, the players and masses won. The players' voices were heard and they selected who they believe will lead them to where they want basketball to be in Nigeria. He added, "I'm not promising what I can not do, I will stand for the truth. Everything has to change concerning the domestic players, we will try to engage in the dialogue, who want to be in the leadership for what is due to the players. If we look at any tournament they are organizing and is not going on well, we will speak with the same voice we've spoken that we are not happy it. Every competition just like the way they've done to the teams abroad, locally-based players also deserved the best. He said he will engage the NBBF leadership in dialogue to air the view of the players and if dialogue doesn't work, the players will protest. "There are so many approaches to the matter, you engage in dialogue if it doesn't work that way you change direction, the last resort is to protest.
