"We won't stay in the NNL more than a season" - Warri Wolves Chairman
Oluwaferanmi Omoniyi
Warri Wolves Chairman, Moses Etu, has assured fans and stakeholders that the Seasiders won't exceed more than a season in the NNL.
He made this known while speaking with SWAN, Ekiti Chapter, after Warri Wolves' 1-1 draw friendly match against Ekiti United at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on Friday.
Warri Wolves, alongside Jigawa Golden Stars, Ifeanyi Ubah and Adamawa got relegated to the second division at the end of last season after a shoddy performance in the NPFL.
The Chairman added that; "Well, we don't belong to NNL, I'm not happy that we're in NNL.
We started as early as October, unfortunately, the NNL management derailed our program. You can see that the boys were in form but have lost everything. If we had started in December or early January, you would have seen a different thing.
We are doing everything we can do because I have told them when they ask me to come and take up a position as an exco member in the NNL, I told them, ``I'm not going to spend more than a year so there is no point."
Mr. Moses also said the Government has made adequate provision for the club to return to the NPFL
"I can tell you we can't spend more than a year because the Government of the day is interested in the team going back to the NPFL. We have been given our money, we are not lacking, after this match we are going to Osogbo to play Osun United, along the line if any team shows interest we move. I have been speaking with them about whether we can play Abeokuta Stormers."
"The government has done their own by providing an enabling environment for the coaches to perform. In the sense that they recruited the players, I didn't recruit any players but I asked questions. I always seek their opinions and we've given them free hand to operate, they recruited all the players and we will hold them responsible if anything happens."
However, he believed the coaching crew of the club is capable of gaining promotion back to the NPFL.
"I believe in them, they have done it before in Ekiti United talking of Omiponle and Sadarna with Dynamite, they should be able to do it."
