11 Ajax Players Test Positive For Covid-19 Ahead Of UCL Clash Against Onyeka’s Midtjylland
By Abidoye Babatunde
An outbreak of COVID-19 at Ajax which has impacted 11 players means that they travel to Denmark to face Frank Onyeka's Midtjyllamd FC for Champions League duty with a 'hurt' squad, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Among the names who have been ruled out of the game against Midtjylland are goalkeeper Andre Onana, Dusan Tadić, Davy Klaassen, and Ryan Gravenberch.
The new Ajax squad is as below:
The squad is as follows: Scherpen, Schuurs, Mazraoui, Blind, Martínez, Tagliafico, Klaiber, Timber, Álvarez, Ekkelenkamp, Neres, Anton, Promes, Traoré, Huntelaar, Brobbey, Jensen.
The outbreak is so widespread that there is a belief that the testing procedure itself may have been compromised and that the readings are not accurate.
Regulations stipulate that visiting teams must be in the country in which they are playing at least a day before the game.
Those Ajax players who did test negative have been flown out to Scandinavia – but the fear inside the club is that head coach Erik ten Hag will have to name a seriously
weakened team.
But given the circumstances surrounding the pandemic, Ajax may appeal to have the game postponed.
