12 Nigerian Fencers Set For African Championships

The Nigeria Fencing Federation has unveiled a 12-member squad for the 23rd African Fencing Championships, scheduled at Charterhouse Lagos from June 25 to 29, 2025, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Topping the list is U.S.-based Inkosi Brou, Nigeria’s first-ever international fencing medalist. Brou recently made history by winning bronze at the 2025 African Junior Championships in Angola.
He will lead the team with his wealth of international experience as he continues his push for qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Joining him is UK-based Oluwafolayemi Akinyosoye, while the squad also boasts homegrown talent such as Wisdom Okanlawon, brothers Mahatir and Mahadi Idongesit, Olumuyiwa Ige, Oritsematosan Egbesemirone, Alex Chizim Aninyei, and Babade Adegbola.
The women’s contingent includes Peluola Akinbamiro, making her home debut for Nigeria, along with Somto Eribenne, Sara Idongesit, and Adebodunrin Thomas.
Team Nigeria will compete in both individual and team events across all three weapon categories foil, epee, and sabre.
