12 Teams Battle For Glory At Renewed Hope 3x3 South-West Basketball Event

Akure, the Ondo State capital, is set to come alive this weekend as teams from across the South-West converge for the South West 3x3 Basketball Challenge, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A total of 12 teams representing Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states will compete in the two-day championship scheduled for May 16 and 17 at Democracy Park, Oja Oba, Akure.

The tournament, themed Asiwaju Renewed Hope South West 3x3 Basketball Challenge, is organised by the South West Basketball Zone and sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Speaking ahead of the competition, the South-West representative on the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Olumide Oyedeji, described the event as another important platform for players in the region to gain valuable competitive exposure.

Oyedeji noted that the growing global popularity of the 3x3 basketball format informed the decision to organise the championship, adding that the initiative would help promote the game and uncover emerging talents within the South-West zone.

He further disclosed that participating teams would compete for millions of naira in prize money, while organisers would also provide accommodation, feeding, jerseys and transportation support for all teams.

Oyedeji commended the Minister of Interior for supporting the initiative and assured fans that the championship would offer more than basketball action, with entertainment and networking opportunities for stakeholders expected to create a vibrant atmosphere throughout the event.
