13 Sports, 1,200 Athletes: Abuja Welcomes Oil and Gas Industry Games

No fewer than 1,200 athletes are expected to compete in 13 sporting events at the 20th edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, scheduled to take place in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The biennial sporting event, which brings together players from across the oil and gas sector, is part of activities marking 40 years of unity and collaboration within the industry. According to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Engineer Sulaiman Sulaiman, the competition underscores the industry’s long-standing commitment to teamwork, wellness and camaraderie among its workforce.

The games will be held from February 8 to 14, with most events taking place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, while the snooker competition will be hosted at the E12 Club in Wuse. Golf events were concluded last week ahead of the main programme.

Participating companies include TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil, Seplat Energy, Oando, Shell, Nigeria LNG (NLNG), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Renaissance, Chevron, Aradel and ND Western.

Sports to be featured at the games include athletics, football, volleyball, badminton, squash, tennis, table tennis, swimming, scrabble and snooker.

Speaking on preparations, the LOC Chairman, Engineer Sulaiman Sulaiman, assured Nigerians of a well-organised and memorable competition, noting that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a successful event.

He added that trophies, team honours and individual awards will be presented to outstanding performers at the conclusion of the games.
