17 Events, One Stage: Para Athletics Ready to Shine at Abuja 2026

As the countdown to the 3rd National Para Games in Abuja enters its final stretch, anticipation continues to build ahead of the March 26 opening. With 11 days remaining, organisers have confirmed a robust Para Athletics programme featuring 17 medal events at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
The athletics schedule has been structured to accommodate a wide range of classifications, ensuring equitable and inclusive competition for athletes with diverse physical and visual impairments.
Field events will include F57 Discus and F57 Javelin, alongside combined classification contests such as the F53/54/55/56 Shot Put and Discus. Additional throwing events will see athletes in the F42–44/61–64 categories compete in both Javelin and Discus, while Shot Put contests are also slated for F46/47, F11/12/13, F37/38, and F40/41 classifications.
Track events promise a compelling mix of speed and endurance races. Athletes will compete in the T11/12/13 200 metres, T53/54 100 metres, and T53/54 1500 metres. The programme also features the T37/38 200 metres, as well as T46/47 100 metres and 200 metres races, all expected to deliver closely contested finishes.
Rounding off the athletics lineup is the T46/47 Long Jump, an event that highlights a combination of speed, coordination, and technical skill.
Collectively, the 17 events span throwing, sprinting, middle-distance running, and jumping disciplines, underscoring the breadth and competitiveness of Para Athletics. The sport remains a cornerstone of the Games, offering athletes a platform to demonstrate resilience, excellence, and national pride.
The 3rd National Para Games will run from March 26 to April 3, bringing together competitors from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in a celebration of inclusivity and sporting achievement.
