Eighteen-year-old Jessica Oji has etched her name into the history books after breaking the Nigerian and African women’s Shot Put record at the Ivy League Conference Championships, BSNSports.com.ng reports
Oji clinched gold with a remarkable throw of 18.50 metres, setting a new continental benchmark and becoming the best female Shot Putter in African history.
The teenager surpassed the previous African record of 18.48m set just a day earlier by Mine de Klerk, who had in turn eclipsed the long-standing mark held by Vivian Chukwuemeka.
Competing under the Nigerian flag for only the third time in her career, Oji delivered a composed and dominant performance to secure the title and rewrite the record books in emphatic fashion.
Her historic throw not only secured victory at the Ivy League Championships but also signaled the arrival of a new force in African athletics, as the 18-year-old continues her rapid rise on the international stage.
