1st Dr D.K Olukoya Girls Basketball Championship Tips Off In Lagos By Our Reporter Women's Basketball in Nigeria comes alive in Lagos as the 1st D.K Olukoya Girls Basketball Championship jump ball on Monday at the Molade Okoya Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, BSNSports com.ng reports. The national tournament featuring 8 teams from across the country features Perenial Nigerian Women's league champion, First Bank basketball club, Inspector General of Police(IGP) Queens, Warrior Amazons and Raptors Girls from Lagos, while War Queens from Sango Ota, Sunshine Queens of Akure and Delta Queens are traveling teams slugging it out with host Mountain of Fire and Miracles Minitries Women Basketball club for honours. As part of the opening ceremony, Ace sports journalist with Supersport, Chisom Mbonu Ezeoke in her motivational speech enjoined all the participants to remain disciplined and believe in the beauty of their dreams as women athletes. In the opening match of the tournament coach Adewunmi Aderemi's MFM Women's Basketball club won their first game  thanks to a resolute hold off of a second half fightback from Warrior Amazons which ended 63-44. On Tuesday which was the day 2, Inspector-General of Police Queens started their campaign at the inaugural D.K Olukoya Girls Basketball championship with a hard-fought 50-47 points victory over a very inspiring Delta Force side. The Abraham Ogaba led IGP Queens had a rough start to the game losing the first quarter 9-12, they fought back in the 2nd quarter to take a one-point lead (21-20) to the break at halftime. However, Delta Force reacted quickest after the break but ran out of steam late in the 3rd quarter setting up a nervy 4th quarter which was edged by the IGP Queens 29-27. The other games in Day 2 saw First Bank blow out the War Queens of Sango Ota 78 - 22 while Sunshine Angels outshined Raptors Girls 52-37.
