20 Clubs Set For Action As NWFL Unveils 2025/2026 Season Schedule
By Niyi Busari
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) board has announced that the 2025/2026 season will kick off on November 26, 2025, and conclude on April 22, 2026, ushering in another exciting phase for women’s football in the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to the NWFL Secretariat, 20 clubs will compete for top honors in what promises to be one of the most competitive campaigns in recent years. The league also confirmed that six teams will face relegation at the end of the season — a decision aimed at improving performance standards and maintaining the league’s competitiveness.
The newly released schedule includes a Christmas break after four match weeks, giving players and officials the opportunity to observe the festive season. League action will resume on January 7, 2026, as teams continue their push for the title.
In a statement, the NWFL board assured fans and stakeholders of a vibrant and professionally managed season, emphasizing enhanced match officiating, media visibility, and fan engagement across all venues.
“Our focus is to deliver a season that reflects the growth and potential of women’s football in Nigeria,” the board stated. “We are committed to ensuring quality competition, transparency, and wider exposure for our clubs and players.”
The upcoming season is expected to draw increased attention, especially following the impressive performances of Nigerian women’s teams in both continental and international competitions.
With clubs actively strengthening their squads ahead of kickoff, fans can look forward to months of thrilling football, emerging talents, and renewed rivalries in the nation’s premier women’s league.
